JONATHAN STRATTON JOINS SPERLING KENNY NACHWALTER
October 1, 2025 – Sperling Kenny Nachwalter is pleased to announce that Jonathan Stratton has joined the firm as a partner in its Miami office.
Jonathan joins the firm’s high stakes South Florida and national complex litigation and trial practice. He brings more than a decade of first chair trial experience as an Assistant United States Attorney with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida, where he most recently served as Deputy Chief of the Economic Crimes Section, leading high-profile prosecutions of cyber-financial and other economic crimes.
He has tried and won numerous jury trials and successfully argued before the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. His experience in handling sensitive, high-profile matters equips him to guide clients through their most challenging disputes with strategic judgement and trial-tested skill.
Jonathan’s work earned him the 2024 Tim Evans Award and recognition as the 2019 Violence Reduction Partner of the Year. Among his notable cases are the prosecutions of former U.S. Ambassador Victor Manuel Rocha for acting as a covert agent to the Cuban government and Emraan Ali, a high-ranking ISIS leader, both resulting in statutory maximum sentences.
In addition to his government service, Jonathan served as an adjunct professor in the Business Law Department at the University of Miami. Earlier in his career, he clerked for a federal district judge in the Southern District of Florida and practiced at a national law firm, focusing on commercial and corporate litigation, and was recognized as the 2013 Chesterfield Smith Fellow for his pro bono work.
Jonathan earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Chicago Law School, serving as Managing Editor of the Chicago Journal of International Law and participating in the Civil Rights and Police Accountability Project. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Economics and Legal Studies, cum laude, from the University of Miami, where he also played on the men’s basketball team, including the team that earned a 7-seed in the 2008 NCAA Tournament.
Jonathan will be leading a team of attorneys experienced in complex, bet-the-company litigation and trials with a particular emphasis on legal, accounting, director and business-related civil and criminal liability matters.
Jonathan shared his perspective on joining the firm, “I was drawn to Sperling Kenny Nachwalter because of its long tradition of excellence in complex litigation and its reputation for integrity, skill, and client service. After over a decade in public service, I wanted to join a firm where I could continue working on sophisticated, high-stakes matters alongside respected colleagues. The firm’s reputation for collaboration and rigorous advocacy made it a natural fit.”
On Jonathan joining the firm, Steven C. Florsheim, Managing Partner, said, “Jonathan Stratton will be a wonderful addition as Sperling Kenny Nachwalter builds on the world class teams it has assembled in Miami, Chicago, Nashville, and Austin. We are a firm of trial lawyers, pursuing challenging and important cases, and Jonathan’s repeated success in the courtroom puts him squarely among the finest litigators of his generation and makes him a perfect fit for our practice.”
William J. Blechman, member of the firm’s Executive Committee, added, “From the time we learned Jonathan might be available, he became our number one priority. It is rare to find an attorney who has the attributes of a natural born leader and is equally comfortable in the courtroom and the boardroom. In a law firm that specializes in complex, bet-the-company litigation, Jonathan Stratton was a must get. We are proud to have him on our team.”
