SPERLING KENNY NACHWALTER SECURES PRELIMINARY INJUNCTION RESTORING UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND DEFENSIVE BACK JORDAN SCRUGGS’ ELIGIBILITY

News

August 20, 2026 – Sperling Kenny Nachwalter successfully secured a preliminary injunction on behalf of University of Maryland defensive back Jordan Scruggs, restoring his eligibility to compete during the 2026 college football season.

Monongalia County Circuit Judge Michael Simms granted the preliminary injunction after finding that Jordan is entitled to an additional season of competition. Jordan sought relief related to the NCAA’s 2024 grant of a blanket waiver allowing an additional season of eligibility for student-athletes who previously competed in college sports at non-NCAA institutions, while excluding student-athletes like Jordan.

The representation was led by partner Blake Sercye with support from Alonzo D. Washington and Lexus D. Allen of Flaherty Sensabaugh Bonasso PLLC as local counsel.
