SPERLING KENNY NACHWALTER SECURES TEMPORARY INJUNCTION CONTINUING DELAWARE STATE QUARTERBACK SAMARI COLLIER’S ELIGIBILITY

September 2, 2026 – Sperling Kenny Nachwalter successfully secured a temporary injunction on behalf of Delaware State University quarterback Samari Collier, continuing his eligibility to compete during the 2026-27 season under a temporary restraining order previously obtained by the firm.

Dallas County Circuit Court Judge Ken Molberg granted the temporary injunction after finding that Samari is entitled to an additional season of competition. Samari sought relief under the NCAA’s five-year rule waiver after losing a season of eligibility while grieving the untimely death of his best friend, who was like a sister to him.

“Samari suffered an unthinkable loss that prevented him from attending school and competing during the 2022-23 school year. Student-athletes should know—as the saying goes—that it’s okay to not be okay. If they need to step away for a season to take care of their mental health, they should not lose eligibility,” said partner Blake Sercye, who led the representation.
